You have the right to terminate your policy in the event of a claim. In general, notice must be given within 14 days of payment of any compensation. The «unused» (pro-rata) portion of the annual premium will be refunded to you.
N.B.: if you terminate your policy following a claim in the first year after concluding the policy or in case of a total damage during the first year, your previous insurer is entitled to payment of the insurance premiums for the entire ongoing policy period.
With car and motorcycle insurance, a change of insurer is also possible during the year if the vehicle or owner changes. When the insurance is changed, the old policy lapses automatically. Your previous insurer will refund the «unused» (pro-rata) portion of the annual premium to you.

If you would like to terminate your policy on its expiry, the insurance company must receive written notice of termination no later than three months before the expiry date (usually 30 September or 31 March). Precise information on deadlines and contract expiry can be found in the general terms and conditions for your current policy.
N.B.: The key date is not when you send the termination but the date on which it is received by your current insurer.
